Electroporation based Technologies and Treatments — International Scientific Workshop & Postgraduate Course
The meeting
Cell membrane electroporation, its mechanisms and applications in biology, medicine and biotechnology. The basis of the phenomena, current applications and future prospects were the main topics of this international meeting.
Whether you are a postgraduate student or you just want to learn and contribute to the discussion, you were kindly invited to attend the workshop and the course on electroporation technologies and treatments. Abstract submission was strongly encouraged and was necessary if credits were sought.

Course content
D. Miklavčič — biological cell & plasma membrane; resting & induced transmembrane voltage; static & dynamic fields; temperature & conductivity changes.
E. Neumann — electrochemical membrane thermodynamics; electroporative transport.
J. Teissié — cells in suspension and in 2D tissue models; parameters governing efficiency in vitro.
L. M. Mir — electroporation of cells in tissue; methods for detecting cell electropermeabilization in vivo.
D. Miklavčič — devices for in vitro, in vivo and clinical purposes; electrodes.
G. Serša — experiments in vitro & in vivo; current clinical applications; future perspectives.
L. M. Mir & J. Teissié — gene transfection in vitro/in vivo; gene expression regulation by siRNA electrotransfer.
J. Teissié — water sterilization and other applications; future perspectives.
V. Préat — transdermal delivery using electroporation; intradermal & topical delivery of DNA.

Registration
The tuition fee (580 EUR) included attendance to the lectures, book of abstracts and course material, lunches and social events, certificate of attendance and examination (ECTS credits). A limited number of grants for student accommodation was available on request.
